The Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH) was present at the event "Oeiras Bluetech Ocean Forum cum 10th International Forum on Clean Energy", which took place on the 16th and 17th of October 2024, at the Forte de São Julião da Barra in Oeiras, Portugal.
This prestigious event, organised by the Ocean Forum in collaboration with the International Forum on Clean Energy - Macau (IFCE), brought together business participants from around the world to discuss the latest technological innovations and business models in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Clean Energy applied to the Blue Economy.
PBDH stood out in two key moments: in the session "AI Bluetech for Ocean Observation, Maritime Spatial Planning Case Studies - Developing Portugal Blue Digital Hub" and in the Special Plenary Session - "Unlocking the EU Blue Digital Economy with Satellite Technology”.
In the session "AI Bluetech for Ocean Observation, Maritime Spatial Planning Case Studies - Developing Portugal Blue Digital Hub", the PBDH was the central topic of discussion. Moderated by Carlos Pinho, PBDH Lead Manager, the session featured renowned speakers including Guilherme Beleza Vaz, CEO of blueOASIS, Mateo Ivanac, CEO of Innovamare, Kendra McDonald, CEO of Canada's Ocean Supercluster and Renato Mendes, Researcher at +ATLANTIC CoLab and FEUP. During this panel, case studies were presented on the application of AI in ocean observation and maritime spatial planning, highlighting the crucial role of the PBDH in developing innovative technological solutions to boost the Blue Economy in Portugal.
The Special Plenary Session entitled ‘Unlocking the EU's Blue Digital Economy with Satellite Technology’ began with the participation of Noelia A., Satellite Applications Engineer at the European Space Agency (ESA). This was followed by presentations on the Open Innovation Ecosystems - Portugal Blue Digital Hub and Hub Azul Portugal - which were highlighted through presentations by Carlos Pinho, Lead Manager of PBDH, and Gonçalo Faria, Lead Manager of Hub Azul Portugal. Both spoke about how these initiatives promote innovation and sustainable growth in the Blue Economy.
In this session, Carlos Pinho said:
"You could also see through the programme that started yesterday and continues today, artificial intelligence solutions and all the potential applications that artificial intelligence can have and how it can serve us in the future for different areas of application such as the Blue Economy".
The session culminated in a panel discussion moderated by Manuel Melo, Innovation Manager at Hub Azul Portugal, with the participation of experts such as Diana Viegas, Science and Project Manager at INESC TEC, Noelia A., Satellite Applications Engineer at ESA and Tiago Marques, Innovation Consultant at Beta-i.
PBDH's presence at the Oeiras Bluetech Ocean Forum reaffirms its commitment to technological innovation and the sustainable development of the Blue Economy, positioning itself as one of the main players in Portugal's digital blue ecosystem.
