The Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH) has recently completed two Open Innovation Programmes as part of the Bluetech Accelerator: IH Sensor Tech, led by the Instituto Hidrográfico da Marinha Portuguesa, and TAGUS INNOV, under the leadership of the Porto de Lisboa. These programmes garnered significant national and international attention, resulting in impressive figures:
A total of 148 applications were submitted;
Over 100 startups with complete submissions;
34 pitches selected in the initial stages;
Participation from companies across 24 countries.
The Open Innovation Programmes engage the Portuguese Blue Economy ecosystem in the co-development of pilots, focusing on critical areas such as positive business impact, flexibility of technical solutions, go-to-market strategies, scalability of business models, and technological innovation. Each programme addresses a specific theme relevant to the Blue Economy, covering areas such as Ports and Navigation, Fisheries, Ocean Renewable Energy, and more.
These programmes are designed to consider regional specificities, effectively responding to local needs and business networks, and allowing for the development and testing of solutions tailored to different regions. Furthermore, the digital services developed within these programmes are aligned with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, promoting digitalisation, decarbonisation, and circularity, which are essential for the sustainability of the sector.
