The Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH) was one of the protagonists of the Smart Ocean Days International Conference, held on 13th and 14th March 2025 at the
Azores Sea School in the city of Horta. The event, organised by the Azores Sea School in collaboration with Fórum Oceano, the Azores Sea Development and Training Azores Sea Development and TrainingAssociation (ADFMA) and blueOASIS, brought together a wide range of experts, entrepreneurs and policymakers to discuss the future of the Blue Economy.
During the event, PBDH Project Manager Rodrigo Oliveira represented Fórum Oceano and PBDH, emphasising the importance of digitalisation and new
technologies in the sustainable development of the oceans. His opening presentation, "Collaboration as a cornerstone for sustainable blue economy
growth", emphasised collaboration as fundamental for the sustainable growth of the maritime economy.
On the second day of the conference, Rodrigo Oliveira moderated a roundtable that discussion on the challenges and opportunities for the future of the sector. Speakers at the round table included: Commodore Paulo Lopes of the Portuguese Navy, who discussed the theme "Communication technologies for safer oceans"; and Alexandra Moutinho of the Instituto Superior Técnico, and José Neves of the AED Cluster, who discussed "Innovation and Sustainability in Aerospace: Driving Portugal's Competitive".
The event was also attended by notable figures such as Rear Admiral Ramalho Marreiros, from the Hydrographic Institute of the Portuguese Navy, who shared insights on "Hydrographic Innovations: Enhancing Oceanographic Knowledge for Sustainable Maritime Practices", contributing to a deeper understanding of sustainable practices in the maritime context.
PBDH's participation in the Smart Ocean Days not only reinforced its commitment to innovation and maritime sustainability but also consolidated its leading role in promoting a sustainable Blue Economy.
