The Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH) participated in the 9th European Bioremediation Conference, which took place between 15 and 19 June in Chania, Crete, Greece. The event brought together European researchers, experts, and decision-makers to discuss the latest biotechnological solutions for the recovery of contaminated aquatic environments.
In one of the event's thematic panels, dedicated to "Biotransformation and removal of emerging contaminants", Ana Paula Mucha, a researcher from CIIMAR, a partner of the
PBDH consortium, presented the Blue Biobank Digital Research Platform — a digital platform that serves as a centralised access point to marine biological resources with high potential for application in bioremediation and other areas of blue biotechnology.
The platform, developed by CIIMAR, INESC TEC, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the University of Aveiro and Yacooba, PBDH consortium
partners, aims to facilitate access to strategic aquatic bioresources, promoting the creation of sustainable solutions that contribute to: • The restoration of degraded ecosystems;
• The development of new high-value products, processes and services for the marine biotechnology industry.
The PBDH's presence at this conference reinforces its commitment to digital innovation applied to the blue sector, encouraging collaboration between science, technology and industry to accelerate the ecological transition and the sustainable exploitation of ocean resources.
