What is NODC-PT?
The National Oceanographic Data Centre – NODC-PT is a national infrastructure that coordinates, enhances, and promotes access to marine data in Portugal. As a national community, it connects marine data producers and managers, fostering an integrated, collaborative approach aligned with national and international best practices. NODC-PT’s mission is to coordinate marine data management, promote interoperability, and facilitate access to integrated and multidisciplinary datasets, strengthening the link between ocean data producers and users.
Key benefits of NODC-PT
By integrating and organising marine data at a national level, NODC-PT offers clear benefits to the scientific, technical, and institutional community:
Access to marine data organised by thematic areas, such as: Bathymetry, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and Pollution.
Promotion of standardised data management practices, ensuring data integrity, quality, and accessibility.
Stronger connections between data producers and users, encouraging knowledge sharing, data reuse, and the development of new services, products, and applications.
Capacity-Building Webinar and Best Practices
Strengthening technical skills and disseminating best practices play a fundamental role. To address this need, the NODC-PT Best Practices Webinar was created—an initiative organised by the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) and the Instituto Hidrográfico – Portuguese Navy, powered by the Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH).
Next session
The third and final session of the NODC-PT Best Practices Webinar will bring together the key concepts covered throughout the series and introduce new perspectives on:
Metadata organisation and management
Use of ocean data in GIS environments
Interoperability between systems and platforms
Improving efficiency in the management and reuse of marine information
Date: 3 February
Time: 10:30 – 12:30
This session is aimed at professionals, researchers, and organisations working with marine data who wish to strengthen their skills in a digital environment.
This is the opportunity to join the NODC-PT community and contribute to the future of marine data management in Portugal.
Impact of previous sessions
Previous webinar sessions recorded strong participation, with more than 70 participants, and very positive feedback, reflecting the growing interest of the community in the efficient use of marine data in a digital context.
The inaugural session, held on 15 January, focused on metadata creation, highlighting its relevance, impact, and best practices in marine geospatial information management. The following session, held on 21 January, explored practical approaches in greater depth and consolidated essential knowledge for more interoperable and effective marine data management.
