On 6 May 2026, the workshop Analytics: From Ocean to Dashboard took place at the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The session was developed within the scope of the Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH), organised by NOVA IMS, with the support of IPMA and the Hydrographic Institute. Dedicated to an introduction to Power BI using marine data, the workshop aimed to equip participants with skills for exploring, processing and visualising information applied to the blue sector. The session was based on a real dataset available through the National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC-PT), demonstrating, in a practical way, how oceanographic data can be transformed into accessible, useful and decision-oriented knowledge. Throughout the training session, participants had the opportunity to follow the full data workflow, from the collection and organisation of raw information to the development of an interactive dashboard. The workshop covered basic concepts of data modelling, the creation of simple measures and the development of visualisations, promoting an applied approach to data analysis in the context of the Blue Economy.
With a strong practical component, the workshop enabled participants to understand the potential of digital analytics and visualisation tools to support the interpretation of marine data, facilitate the communication of results and strengthen analytical capacity across different professional and institutional contexts.
The initiative contributed to the development of digital skills applied to the blue sector, in line with PBDH’s mission to promote the digital and environmental transition of the Blue Economy. By bringing together marine data, digital tools and practical training, the workshop reinforced the importance of data literacy and the use of technological solutions to support a more informed, innovative and sustainable management of the Ocean.
