Digital Platforms strengthen value creation in the Blue Economy

May 26, 2026

The Portugal Blue Digital Hub (PBDH) promoted, on 26 May, the webinar PBDH Digital Platforms: Generating Value for the Blue Economy, an online session that brought together 35 participants to explore the contribution of digital platforms to value creation in the Blue Economy.
The initiative aimed to present solutions developed within the scope of the project, highlighting their potential to support knowledge sharing, research, oceanographic data management and the capacity-building of professionals and organisations connected to the maritime sector. Throughout the session, digital tools designed to respond to concrete needs of the Blue Economy were presented, promoting a more innovative, collaborative and sustainable approach.
During the webinar, participants had the opportunity to learn more about three PBDH Digital Platforms:
The National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC-PT) was presented as a platform dedicated to the access, management and sharing of oceanographic data, contributing to the enhancement of marine data and supporting the production of knowledge about the ocean.
The Blue Biobanks Digital Research Platform was presented as a digital repository focused on marine biodiversity, facilitating access to data and resources associated with blue biobanks. The platform aims to support scientific research, industrial innovation and the development of new solutions within the blue bioeconomy.
The Digital Blue Academy was highlighted as an e-learning platform dedicated to strengthening the digital skills of Blue Economy professionals. This solution contributes to the capacity-building of the sector by providing training content aligned with the challenges of the digital and environmental transition.
From access to oceanographic data to the valorisation of marine biodiversity, and through the strengthening of digital skills, the webinar demonstrated how digital platforms can play a strategic role in the modernisation of the Blue Economy. The session also highlighted the importance of technology as a tool to support innovation, collaboration between organisations and the creation of applied knowledge for the maritime sector.
With this initiative, PBDH reinforced its commitment to promoting the digital and environmental transition of the Blue Economy, supporting the development of solutions that contribute to a more competitive, sustainable and future-ready sector.
